So... why Sisterhood of the Redneck Riviera
I love the word serendipity and I certainly love being a part of serendipity. Now I've been thinking, thinking, thinking on what I could do creatively for fun that could benefit me and others. I say fun because I've spent the past 7 years doing some pretty serious stuff that anyone can read about if they just google my name...Deborah Tainsh. I've written serious non-fiction books, magazine, internet, and newspaper articles, but this year 2011, I wanted to take a different direction for the sake of sanity, while still contributing to the other "tough" stuff I've been a part of since 2/11/2004. I've kept asking the Big Kahuna of the Universe what I could do with this talent for writing and "speaking" He/She gave me, other than the "tough stuff" I've done. Then an AHA moment came on a beautiful Sunday morning of March 20 after my husband and I had breakfast at Mike's Diner on Front Beach Road. Let me share this ladies...Sunday morning used to be host to the regular menu of pancakes and bacon, then about a month ago I told my hubby that I was tired of a Sunday boring routine...up, turn on the coffe pot, get out the bacon and pancake mix, the skillets, cook, eat and watch him enter the sofa corner and join Fox News. No more, I said... I want to get dressed and get in the car and ride up the coast each Sunday and find a new place to have breakfast, brunch, lunch or whatever. So it has been happening and what a difference it has made! Anyway, back to Sunday March 20...after breakfast at Mike's Diner, which I highly recommend for breakfast or lunch, open 7 days a week until 2p.m., while Dave had his smoke, I walked next door to check out Islander's Marketplace. I discovered a charming shop for gals just like me who are mesmerized by beautiful beach colors and trinkets (eye candy for women), artwork, jewelry, etc, etc, etc...A shop with one of the most beautiful views to the sugar sand beach across the street and awesome sunsets in the evening. While carousing I discovered an item with fleur de leis I fell in love with. (Yes, I collecdt about anything with the fleu de leis emblem because it has a special meaning in our home because it is the military patch for our son Patrick's U.S. Army 2nd Cavalry Regiment). While looking at this beautiful pewter set of measuring cups, non like I've never seen before, the lady I assumed was the propriator, walked near and I said hello and let her know I'd like to purchase the item. In the course of time I learned she and her family owned this wonderful quaint shop. I ask where she brought all her great items in from.to learn some came from her trips to "purchase" and others from area artists. Well when she said "area artists" a thought popped into my head and I told her I was a local author, although for serious books, but I was looking to do something that would be fun. I told her I was also a novice photographer and poet and ask could she think of anything I might contribute on consignment to her shop that might be of interest to customers. That's when serendipity really picked up! She told me she'd been wanting to find a local artist/photographer that could provide local postcards, greeting cards, etc...she also shared she was adding a wine/beer/coffee bar to the back of the shop and wanted to host some fun activities like Tierra Tuesdays. Of course I thought this was great and I got more excited and ask her if she'd consider a Wordy Wednesday where I could offter a fun time of facilitating a workshop to help folks write down their Redneck Riviera memories in poetry or prose...the proprietor liked this idea...well needless to say, she and I hit it off and she welcomed ideas I might have. After returning home that evening my brain went into high gear (although my husband says it never comes out of high gear) and I wrote a poem and pulled some of my photos to make together! AHA! I created my first postcards and framed beach photos to sell and in putting all that together I thought to myself; "self we need a cool marketing tool, something special folks will remember", and hence Sisterhood of the Redneck Riviera was born! So, I sign off my creative work now: Made especially for you by Deb T..PCB...Sisterhood of the Redneck Riviera...and just what is this Sisterhood? Sisterhood of the RedNeck Riviera, Panama City Beach, Fla "Taking nothing but memories, leaving nothing but footprints" is for women who have been fortunate to live at or travel to the Redneck Riviera, aka Emerald Coast in the Florida Panhandle and made memories for a life. We have come to the beautiful Redneck Riviera's sugar sand beaches and emeral waters for solace, rest and relaxation, romance, fun, falling in love, vacationing with family, or renewing of the body, mind, and spirit. Hence, any woman who came, saw, enjoyed and retains special memories from the Redneck Riviera's most beautiful beaches in the world and purchased one of my original creations that provides support to our nation's wounded warrirors and grieving millitary famillies is automatically amember of the Sisterhood of the Redneck Riviera.
